CB Kobe Marfo to visit Rutgers on Monday

Rutgers will receive a visit tomorrow from cornerback Kobe Marfo who has experienced quite a recruiting journey over the past few years. He is a native of Alexandria, Va., but spent the past fall at Reedley Community College in Reedley, California.

Recently, Marfo has been receiving interest from a host of FBS programs, including Rutgers.

“Things are going very well with Rutgers. There is a high possibility I commit there tomorrow,” Marfo said this afternoon.

Marfo did not just jump on RU’s radar out of nowhere as he was previously recruited by offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer.

“I talk to coach Mehringer the most. I also talk to coach [Aaron] Henry as well,” Marfo said. “My main recruiter is coach Mehringer. That goes back to his time at James Madison. He came down to my school my junior year and he was recruiting me.”

Rutgers director of high school relations Rick Mantz first began contacting Marfo and things evolved from there.

“Coach Mantz told me that he said my name and coach Mehringer said he knew me real well and that he recruited me out of high school,” Marfo explained. “At the time, they were still figuring out if they wanted to offer me. The whole coaching staff wanted to know why I hadn’t signed anywhere big. They called my head coach at my high school and talked to all my coaches. Then they put a stamp on it and sealed the deal by offering me a scholarship.”

Tomorrow’s visit will enable the whole staff to get better acquainted with Marfo.

“I am going down there to check on the campus, see the coaches and all that stuff. They are also going to see if all my credits transfer in from when I was out in California," Marfo said. "Hopefully, I get access to the locker room so I can put on the jersey and see what it feels like.”

Louisiana-Monroe, Troy and Louisiana Tech have all been showing a good amount of interest while Marfo has also been in contact with Syracuse and New Mexico State.

But they could all wind up being a little late to the party.

“If things go well tomorrow, I can tell the whole world I am going to be a Scarlet Knight,” Marfo said.

Marfo has four years to play three and here is a look at his highlights from last season.
